Al-Quds Open University holds a workshop for implementing project of “Mobile Educational Center”

4Under the auspices of Al-Quds Open University President, Prof. Younis Amro, the Continuing Education & Community Service Center (CEC) held on Tuesday, Dec 16, 2014, a workshop to start implementing “Mobile Educational Center” Project, which aims at improving educational opportunities in the marginalized areas of South Hebron. The Project funded by Governments of Sweden, Austria and Norway through Community Resilience & Development Program for “C” Area & East Jerusalem (CRDP). Ministries of the Palestinian Government such as Planning & Administrative Development, Agriculture, Education & Higher Education, & Local Government cooperated together with the Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP) that follows the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Workshop was attended by Yatta Branch Director Dr. Ali Salah, the Director of Continuing Education & Community Service Center Mr. Mahmoud Hawamdah, Dr. Abdul Latif Mohammed, the Projects Coordinator at CEC Mrs. Randa Abdul Hay, the Faculty Members Dr. Jamal Bheis & Mrs. Ferial Amro, the Community Resilience & Development Program for “C” Area & East Jerusalem (CRDP) field coordinators Mrs. Mirna Al-Azza & Mr. Rasheed Shreim, the Mayors of Yatta Municipality & Sammu’ Municipality, the Representative of the Ministry of Local Government, Representatives of Yatta & South Areas Educational Directorates, participated & concerned Institutions.
Dr. Salah started the workshop welcoming the attendance, indicated to the University role in supporting students of Yatta Branch from the marginalized areas. Dr. Salah explained how the workshop came from the efforts of providing the “Mobile Educational Center”, which makes the University & the Local Community so special in supporting people who live in these marginalized areas, developing their abilities, raising their efficiencies, & also in offering education opportunities for females. He also said that QOU Yatta Branch is going to implement this project within a comprehensive plan in order to ensure achieving the desired results.

Mr. Hawamdah reviewed the Continuing Education & Community Service Center works & Projects in some University Branches including this joint effort by many institutions, which considered as one of the most important projects in the marginalized areas in South Hebron, Mr. Hawamdah assured that QOU in collaboration with concerned & partner institutions are willing to make this project sees the light.
The Continuing Education & Community Service Center Consultant, Dr. Abdul Latif Mohammed, presented a detailed explanation about the project, indicating targeted categories, ways of implementation, requirements, crew, & Voluntary Campaigns. Dr. Mohammed assured that the project is all Palestinian, for supporting Palestinian citizens’ resilience & enhancing their presence on their lands located in the marginalized areas, & threatened for being confiscated.

Yatta Mayor, Mr. Mousa Makhamrah, assured that Yattah Municipality will fulfill all commitments toward this project, which meets the needs of targeted groups in the marginalized areas, where resident communities & schools are resilience castles toward the deportation & displacement policy.
Meanwhile, Sammou’ Municipality Mayor, Mr. Yousef Al-Salameen asked for more of such projects, expressing the Municipality willing & readiness to contribute in making its best for the project’s success & importance.

The Participant Women in the Workshop –on behalf of Women’s Associations- have agreed & supported the importance of the Project in improving Education especially for Females.

Finally, the field coordinator for Community Resilience & Development Program (CRDP), Mrs. Mirna Al-Azza, indicated that this project is one of the projects which targeting the marginalized areas in South Hebron, partnership with Al-Quds Open University & Local Community Institutions. “We hope this project will do a positive role in enhancing People’s Resilience in South Hebron” she said. She also made a tribute toward the participants’ high spirit & cooperation during the workshop.
